pastel is a real-time multiplayer drawing and guessing game. open a room, share the link, draw with friends. voice chat baked in, so you can roast each other while you draw. bots that replay real human sketches from google's quick draw, no AI, just human doodles. reload mid-game and rejoin as the same player.
hey product hunt 👋
i'm yashaswi, solo dev based in india. i built pastel because i wanted to play skribbl with my friends but with voice chat , and somewhere along the way it turned into a from-scratch real-time multiplayer game in rust.
things i'm proud of:
- writing a binary websocket protocol that rust and typescript both agree on byte-for-byte (cross-codec hex fixtures save lives)
- bots that replay real human quick draw sketches instead of using AI, way better drawings, free, zero inference
- reload safety via localstorage tokens, so refresh keeps your score and seat
- a load test that ran 1000 concurrent clients with p99 RTT under half a millisecond
happy to answer anything about the engineering, the bot dataset, the codec design, or how cloud run handles websockets in practice. if it breaks, please tell me, i'm watching the logs today.

The voice chat addition feels like the real feature here. Half the fun of games like this comes from hearing everyones reactions while the drawing is happening.

pastel was hunted by Yashaswi Mishra. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
