Hey Product Hunt 👋
I first launched Password Book here in December 2025. At the time, it was a fairly simple offline Android password manager focused on encrypted local storage and attachments.
Over the last several months, I ended up rebuilding almost everything.
Password Book 3.0 has a new vault model, a redesigned UI, multiple record types, multiple vaults, encrypted backups, Recovery Center, Security Center, trusted devices, Android Autofill, encrypted attachments and account-free device sync.
One decision stayed the same: I don’t want Password Book to require a Password Book account or depend on an AlpWare-hosted password database.
The vault remains local-first. If you want sync, you can use verified device-to-device/local-network sync, and Premium users can optionally use storage they control through WebDAV or restricted Google Drive app data. The synced objects are encrypted client-side before leaving the device.
I also spent a lot of time on something less visible: upgrading existing users safely. Password managers hold data people can’t afford to lose, so the v1 → v2 migration is resumable and verifies records and attachments before retiring legacy data.
I’m building Password Book independently, so I’d especially appreciate feedback on three things:
• Does the account-free/local-first model make sense to you?
• What would you expect before trusting a newer password manager?
• Which Android password-manager workflow still frustrates you today?
Thanks for checking it out — and thanks to everyone who tried the first version here last year. 🔐
