Hey Product Hunt 👋
I spent a month building an anime tracker. Episode counts, scores, review
threads, reputation, the lot. Then I looked at what I'd made and realised I
would never use it, because I already track on AniList and I was never going
to do it twice.
What I actually wanted was much smaller: a page I could put in my Discord bio or share with my friends that showed what I'm watching. Not a database. A page.
So I deleted about 80% of it. What's left is ota.gg/yourname:
• Three rows: watching, watchlist, watched. That's the whole data model.
• No episode counts, no scores, no progress bars. Nothing to keep up to date,
which means it can't go stale and make you look like you quit anime in 2023.
• 12 themes, 15 flairs (a little animation that plays when someone opens your
page), any Google font, up to 5 links.
• Share it as a link or a QR code. There's an embed if you have a site.
• Anyone can open your page. You only sign in: Discord or Google, one click
to edit your own.
It's free and there are no ads on your page. Search works in English, romaji
and 日本語, and "aot" finds Attack on Titan, because I got tired of products
that only accept the official title in Titlecase.
It is not a MyAnimeList competitor and I don't want it to be. I track on
AniList. I show and share on ota.gg. Plenty of people will do both.
Two things I'd love your read on:
1. Is "not a tracker" a feature or a missing feature? I've argued myself into
both answers.
2. What would make you actually put the link in your bio, rather than make a
page and forget it? That's the part I haven't solved.
Here's a live one so you can see it without signing up: ota.gg/mirakawa
I'm here all day. There's a Discord too if you'd rather shout at me there:
discord.gg/XSTYU6Yux9
Would love a way to mark which episodes I'm on for each series so the page doubles as a quick "where did I leave off" reference when I share it with friends to coordinate watch nights.
The custom URL setup is so clean, love that it's just ota.gg/yourname with no extra clutter. finally a place to show off my watchlist without it looking like a spreadsheet.
I have created an account and I want to share some basic feedback. The Sign in using Google worked as expected but it was strange to share data with knzehogcrbxjcyyjbnvv.supabase.co instead of expected ota.gg . Everything else worked like searching in Shelf, marking watched items, Adding link in Profile, adding avatar. Nice option also with embed HTML! Overall good user experience and bugless. Good luck with the launch.
