Orihai
Interactive fiction you play for weeks - local-first, free
Orihai is a Windows app for long interactive fiction, narrated by any model you like: Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, or fully local via Ollama and llama.cpp. Your keys and stories stay on your PC: one database file, no server. Always free.
Hi, Product Hunt! I'm Manuel, creator of Orihai.
Orihai is a desktop app (Windows is in the beta phase, more SO and devices are planned) for long interactive fiction: stories you play over weeks, not minutes. The problem we set out to fix is memory: the AI narrator that drifts, contradicts, and forgets. Orihai compiles every turn into a tight, budgeted context that tracks who is who, where they are, and what was promised so the model can keep a long story true.
The name is 折り本, orihon: a folded book, with one sheet creased back and forth until it reads as pages but is really one continuous surface. A long story here is exactly that.
Everything stays on your machine: one database file for your stories, your API keys in the Windows credential store, and no server in the middle. Bring a key for Anthropic, OpenAI, or OpenRouter, or run on fully local models through Ollama, LM Studio, or llama.cpp and bring nothing.
The app is free and always will be. We're also trying a managed service, Orihai AI, for people who would rather not think about keys: its plan is free while it is in testing, and paid plans may come later. Either way, BYOK and local stay free.
In this build: reference highlights (a name lights up in the prose; hover to see who it is and where they last appeared), seven hand-tuned themes, two of them for daylight, a library that treats your saves like shelves, and i18n.
What we most want from you: does the prose hold up over weeks? Which theme do you read in? What breaks first? We are in the comments all day.
Thanks for looking.

Who hunted Orihai?
Orihai was hunted by Manuel Raya. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
