Orbis is a mobile app for learning geopolitics and world history in short lessons. The idea is simple. The news tell you what happened but rarely why it matters or how it got there, and most history apps hand you dates and trivia. Orbis focuses on general concepts of geopolitics: the geopgrahy, the history, the resources and how power actually works.
Hey Product Hunt 👋🏻
I am Daniel and I have been working on Orbis for the past few months. I have always been very passionate about geopolitics and history, and this app is literally my dream project.
I think the world we live in is getting more and more complex and risky: The Ukraine war. The Iran war. Tensions in the South China Sea and around Taiwan. Disrupted shipping lanes and chokepoints. Trade wars, culminating in the current Chip and AI war. The world moving from unipolar to multipolar, with old alliances weakening and a new order starting to form.
Reading the news does not help much to explain the world. There is a lot of noise: who says what at which summit. To understand what's really happening you need to understand geopolitics: geography, resources, history, cultures, religions, game theory, economics and politics. Once you know the basic concepts, you look at each conflict in a completely different way.
For me the main ways to learn about this have been reading books or watching YouTube videos. But there was nothing in between. No way to get bite-sized content in an organized way. This is why I started to build Orbis. I want Orbis to become the reference book everybody reaches for when they want to learn more about geopolitics, and I want to make it fun to use. You can read daily geopolitics news with a quick daily briefing. Dive into hundreds of lessons, from Ancient Rome to the Chip Wars. Explore a 3D globe to see where resources, chokepoints and trade routes are. Study flashcards to actually remember the information. And just 5 min per day is enough!
I would love to know what you think and if you have any ideas or feature requests!
Available on iOS and Android.
