OpenWiki is a free, open-source CLI that turns YouTube talks, essays and notes into a linked Markdown knowledge base you own. Its source, person and topic pages form a navigable tree for people and AI agents working through dense material. Search offline in under 2 seconds, or ask questions with citations to the minute. Works with Gemini, OpenAI or Ollama.
Hey PH - Kunal here, maker from India.
I kept losing the good parts of the talks and essays I watched. OpenWiki is my fix: point it at a YouTube channel, a blog, or your own notes and it maintains a cross-linked Markdown wiki - a page per source, plus pages for every person, company and topic, all backlinked. It follows the "LLM Wiki" pattern Karpathy described, but as one pip install instead of an agent setup you wire together.
Things I'd love feedback on:
- the ingest schema (what a source page should capture)
- no vector DB - the wiki itself is the retrieval layer. Where does that break for you?
- which sources should I add next (podcasts? arXiv? substack?)
It runs fully offline with Ollama if you don't want data leaving your machine. MIT licensed. Tell me what breaks.
