OpenVitals
Your Google Health data, as an MCP server for your AI
OpenVitals turns your Google Health data into ~60 MCP tools any AI can use — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Cline. Ask "how did I sleep this week vs last?" or "am I hitting my protein target?" and get answers from your real heart, sleep, activity, glucose, nutrition and workout data. It's self-hosted: read-only Google scopes via your own free OAuth client, everything in a local SQLite file, nothing uploaded anywhere. Runs on a spare laptop or a Pi. Node 22+, MIT licensed, no subscription.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built OpenVitals because I got tired of the idea of paying a subscription to ask an AI about my own health data.
Google Health already has everything — my sleep, resting heart rate, workouts, what I ate. But getting an AI to actually reason over it meant handing it to someone else's paid product, running on someone else's servers. As one person and not a company, that math never worked for me.
So OpenVitals is a self-hosted MCP server. It:
• Reads your Google Health data with read-only scopes, using your own free Google Cloud OAuth client
• Stores it in a SQLite file on your machine — nothing gets uploaded anywhere
• Exposes ~60 tools over MCP, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Cline — anything that speaks MCP — can query it
Then you just ask: "How did I sleep this week vs last?" · "What's my resting heart rate trend?" · "Log a 5 km run" · "Am I hitting my protein target?"
The whole thing runs on a spare laptop in my apartment. Local MCP clients hit localhost directly; for the ChatGPT or Claude apps, a free ngrok or Cloudflare tunnel gives you an HTTPS URL in one command. It's MIT licensed, and the README walks through the whole setup — Google Cloud secrets, tunneling, and connecting each client.
Two things I'd genuinely love feedback on:
1. What other data sources should this cover? Fitbit, Oura, Whoop, Apple Health — where should I go next?
2. If you run MCP servers at home, how are you handling auth? Right now it's a bearer token, and I'd like something better for people exposing it publicly.
Happy to answer anything about the MCP side, the Google Health API, or running this on a potato laptop. 🩺
