Hey Product Hunt 👋

I’m Julian, one of the co-founders of Openspot and we’re building a platform born from the frustrations we've all felt with traditional, static resumes and outdated networking platforms.

Let’s be honest:

📉 LinkedIn feels more like Facebook than a hiring / networking platform.

📎 Resumes are just decorated bullet points and aren't built for a competitive job market. How do you get to know someone or stand out through bullet points?

🤝 Networking? Awkward and superficial.

We built Openspot because we were tired of feeling invisible in a sea of sameness.

What makes it hit:

📹 Add a short video or voice intro

🪩 Beautiful profiles that feel human

🎯 Built for standing out, not feeding the content machine

🔍 Recruiters can search you via natural language (yes, really)

🧑‍🎤 Prompts that help people understand the person behind the profile.

We started this with a simple hack: building personal sites and video resumes that actually worked. Now we’ve turned it into something anyone can use in minutes.

🚀 We hit #1 on Hacker News last week with 450+ comments and wild feedback.

🛠️ We're raw, bootstrapped, and building this for people like us.

If you’ve ever felt overlooked or boxed in by traditional platforms: try Openspot.

We’d love your feedback, your ideas, and yeah… even your roasts.

Let’s make job searching and networking actually human.

Comment highlights

With all the wearisomeness of AI-ness and personal branding-ness, Openspot is definitely refreshing. I often wonder why people prefer Linked In type of containers to open air perfumed fields filled with professional people just in their normal I-am-what-I-am personality and fashion, chumping hotdogs and just telling what they do for a living.

This looks amazing. I have always been frustrated with LinkedIn and stopped using it. This is something definitely worth trying. Good luck guys!!

I love how Openspot focuses on creating genuine, human profiles instead of the typical, rigid resume formats—we need more of that in today's job market! How customizable is the profile in terms of design and content, and can users really showcase their unique skills and personality effectively?

It’s really impressive that you can search in natural language! I think it’s truly amazing and will soon surpass LinkedIn.

Openspot is a refreshing take on the job search experience! By utilizing thoughtful prompts, short videos, and audio clips, it elevates your professional profile beyond just a resume. The friendly approach helps in forming genuine connections, making the process of finding jobs feel less intimidating and more engaging.

Although a part - competitor to my idea that i intend to execute, i wish you folks all the best. We need more LinkedIn alternatives. Clean and human way to go about hiring.

Good to give it a try, but the constant user traction might be a bit difficult. Still the market is wide open for a new player.

🎉 Huge congrats on the PH launch and hitting #1, Julian @fliellerjulian & Openspot team! 🚀 As someone who’s so over LinkedIn’s noise, your focus on "human-first" profiles with video/audio intros is a breath of fresh air. Love the natural-language recruiter search—genius for cutting through resume clutter! 👏

One tiny ask: Could you add industry-specific tags to profiles? For example, tagging "#AIProductManager" would help recruiters niche-search faster. Also, maybe a "collab mode" where users can team up for project showcases? 🤝

Either way, rooting for you guys—this is the future of hiring! Curious: What’s next on your roadmap?

This looks awesome—can’t wait to try it once you expand globally (greetings from Vietnam!). I really love the idea of adding a short video or voice intro, and the whole profile design feels way more like a personal portfolio than a typical job platform.

Congrats on the launch!

You have solved a good problem here. Hoping to see this become bigger!

I was recently laid off @fliellerjulian, so I am happy to see this! I'll test it out!
