At OpenSauced, we believe that open source is not just about the code. It's about building a community of contributors with a shared passion and dedication to creating something meaningful together. In the last year, I have personally met with 30+ maintainers and founders to get validation on features specifically designed to help them foster a sense of community among OSS contributors. Our platform allows you to quickly identify new and returning contributors, making identifying opportunities for encouragement and showcasing rising stars. Open source work can be thankless, and maintainers can create an environment where all contributors feel valued and supported. If you enjoy data and pizza charts, please let us know what other data you'd like to see next.

Comment highlights

About thirteen years ago I started a project for a talk that would index all of our repositories on GitHub, generate a lot of trends and interesting metrics and commentary on what code was, and generally thought it'd be a really great project to work on. Anyway, it was a complete disaster, the talk was the worst talk I've ever done, and I'm still embarrassed to even mention it here. BUT! The kernel of the idea has been with me all this time, and thank goodness someone's actually building it way better than I could have ever imagined it back when I was working at GitHub. OpenSauced is neat and hip and cool and all the really fun buzzwords we all like as developers, but I've also worked with organizations where these types of insights about your codebase are just really, desperately needed. Who's really doing the work? Who are your unsung heroes? Which companies really know what they're doing? The questions go on and on, and *that's* what I find so fascinating about this whole area. If you'll permit me to be a bit corny: sure, graphs of issues opened and burndown charts and reporting on all sorts of metrics and stuff are fine and dandy, but code is still code, and people are still people... and people are the hard parts. We're years overdue for better tooling to actually help the people side of our industry. And that's why I'm so stoked to hunt OpenSauced. Also, it's got a `.pizza` TLD. I mean, shit, that's just delicious.

I've been a fan of open source for a while and have had the privilege to work on it. Congrats on the launch, great work team! On another note, I’m thrilled to share about our new venture, anchors.in https://go.anchors.in/eOml, a platform for everyone who hosts events & tired of juggling multiple tools. It enables 50% more conversions with 70% less effort. Your feedback on our recent launch on Product Hunt would be invaluable in honing our offering. Let’s inspire each other!

Great product for the open source community 😻 Knowing the pulse of your community and top contributors is key for any OS project!

Open source is not just about the code, it's about bringing people together with the same passion. It's important to value and support all contributors in the open source world. Love the idea of the product!

OpenSauced is such a catchy name! So many open-source projects that made an impact throughout my career. Q: Why is it important to really get to know the people in an open source community?

This is amazing! Congratulations on the launch. This is a great product and deserves all the attention!

Congratulations on the launch @bdougieyo! I love open-source platforms and the idea of gaining deep insights into my project sounds really intriguing. I was wondering, does OpenSauced provide any specific metrics or analytics that can help me understand the impact of my open-source work? Also, does it integrate with GitHub or GitLab? It would be great to have all the insights and community interactions in one place.

Congrats on Launching OpenSauced @bdougieyo !!! Your platform highlights and supports the often-overlooked community aspect of open source and I think that is a really cool niche! Question: What is OpenSauced's plan for generating revenue to sustain the platform and its mission?
