Old Light is a slow strategy game in a shared galaxy. Build a system, scout neighbours, send fleets, and return to see what changed while you were away.
Hi Product Hunt
I built Old Light because I missed the old browser strategy games. Most of that genre either died or turned into pay-to-win timer games.
Old Light is a strategy game set across a shared galaxy. You start with a single star and expand outward, building up reactors and extractors, projecting territory, and running into other real players doing the same thing. The galaxy is persistent and everyone plays in the same one.
Everything you see across the galaxy already happened. That's the old light.
It's live at oldlight.io. Still early, building it in the open. Would love to hear what you think, what's confusing, what you'd want from a game like this.
How long do fleets typically take to return so you can actually see the galaxy shift in a meaningful way?
Love how the pacing lets the galaxy breathe between moves, makes checking back in feel like opening a letter rather than refreshing a feed. The shared world concept is executed really well.
The asynchronous pacing really clicked for me, came back after a few hours to find a neighbor had quietly expanded into my territory. Felt like a proper slow burn without being punishing.
How does timing work when sending fleets between systems, is it strictly turn based or can I check in on things mid-move without breaking the pacing?
