I’m Ali, the founder of Okuzeka.
Okuzeka started with a very simple problem: I wanted to read books in English, but every few sentences I had to stop, open a dictionary, search for a word, inspect ten possible meanings, return to the book, and then try to remember what the paragraph was about.
At some point, I realized I was spending more time operating dictionaries than actually reading.
So I built Okuzeka.
You upload a PDF or EPUB, tap an unfamiliar word, and Okuzeka shows the meaning that best fits the sentence. No leaving the page. No copy-pasting. No dictionary giving you twelve definitions and wishing you good luck.
I tested it by reading the Dune series in English, which was either a very ambitious product test or an unnecessarily aggressive vocabulary challenge.
During the first book, I was tapping so many words that I sometimes wondered whether I was reading Dune or playing a very slow word-clicking game designed by Frank Herbert.
But from the second book onward, something changed: the number of words I needed to tap noticeably decreased.
The same words kept appearing in new sentences, and eventually they started sticking without me deliberately memorizing them. Apparently, vocabulary learns that resistance is useless if it follows you through several hundred pages.
That is the core idea behind Okuzeka:
Instead of memorizing isolated vocabulary lists, you meet words repeatedly inside stories you actually want to read.
So yes, Okuzeka is technically an e-book reader.
But emotionally, it is a vocabulary-learning monster wearing glasses and pretending to be a library.

honestly this looks great for anyone learning a language through reading, but one thing i'd love is the ability to export my saved vocabulary to anki or another flashcard app, since that's kind of the whole review workflow for most language learners right? would make it way more useful
Finally a way to actually learn vocab from books I am already reading. The tap-to-translate thing feels super smooth and it remembers words across sessions, which is honestly what I wanted from something like this for a while.
This sounds genuinely useful for anyone learning a language through reading. One thing that would make it even better is letting users export their saved vocabulary to Anki or other flashcard apps directly, basically so the review loop doesn't require opening Okuzeka every time. Right now it sounds like a closed system. Honestly even a simple CSV export would be a solid start.
One thing that would make this a no-brainer for me is exporting saved words to Anki or other SRS apps directly from Okuzeka. Right now I have a habit of reading on the laptop and reviewing on my phone, and having to manually copy vocab across breaks the flow. If I could sync my saved words to a deck with the original sentence as context, I'd probably never miss a review session.
