I started this because I was tired of the lack of proper writing tools (of any kind) that don’t bombard you with UI or unnecessary features. Beyond that, I was looking for something that, while staying simple, still allows text formatting. After several months of effort, I built Odak.app. A fast, noise-free, fully offline writing tool with real-time text formatting into Markdown, directly in the same environment where you write.
