OctoVault turns your local documents into a private knowledge graph, so you can ask questions, trace facts to their source, and keep every byte on your device.
Sunil here, posting on behalf of myself and my cofounder Payal, we built OctoVault as a two-person team.
The use case started personal: I have a folder called `important_docs/` with 84 PDFs in it - passports, my wife's I-797, our lease, paystubs, the kids' birth certificates and every time someone asked me "when does that visa expire?" I lost ten minutes digging through it.
NotebookLM solves this by uploading everything to Google. ChatGPT by uploading to OpenAI. For these documents specifically, that always felt wrong. So Payal and I built the third option.
OctoVault is a Mac app that runs the AI locally (Ollama, qwen3:8b + nomic-embed-text), extracts facts from each document, and links them in a knowledge graph you can chat with. The vault is SQLCipher-encrypted with a key derived from your password. Zero outbound calls in product runtime - the landing page has a DevTools screenshot to prove it.
A few things we'd love PH's read on:
1. The graph view vs plain chat — is the graph the actual killer
feature, or does Q&A alone do the job for 90% of cases?
2. A Chrome side panel that auto-fills DS-160 / I-130 / school forms
from the same vault is in private beta. Useful, or creepy?
3. First-run installs Ollama for you if you don't have it (~5GB
for the two models). Tolerable, or where does it break?
Free for personal use. Pro $9/mo — reserve at launch and the price locks for life. Lifetime $499, capped at 200 seats (honest counter on the page).

What's the most annoying piece of paperwork in your life right now?
We'll reply with exactly what OctoVault would do with it.
Do the documents stay local? Would it work with a google drive folder?

Who hunted OctoVaultAI?
OctoVaultAI was hunted by Sunil Tiwari. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
