nuza
A simple, lightweight home for your markdown notes
Nuza is a simple, lightweight alternative to Obsidian for people who just want to write and organize Markdown notes without the bloat. It is free and open source, runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and works directly with plain Markdown files. With built-in Vim keybindings, wiki-links, backlinks, search, frontmatter, and more, Nuza keeps note-taking fast, minimal, and fully local.
I built nuza because I wanted a note-taking app that felt simple again.
I love Markdown and Vim, but most note-taking apps come with a lot of things I don't really need. I wanted something lightweight, fast, local-first, and built around plain Markdown files.
What started as a small personal project slowly evolved into a full-fledged Obsidian alternative with Vim keybindings, backlinks, wiki-links, search, frontmatter, and more.
Nuza is still evolving, and I'm hoping to keep it simple instead of turning it into another bloated productivity app.
Would love to hear what you think.

Hi, nice work! I've been looking to replace Obisidian. How do you coordinate your notes between different machines?
