Nsikacart is a modern online marketplace (nsika) in Malawi where you can buy and sell electronics, fashion, food, and local products. Discover deals, connect with sellers, and shop smarter.
Building Nsikacart in public has been interesting.
Right now, we’re still early.
We have a small number of users and listings - but that’s exactly where the learning is happening.
One thing became clear quickly:
Most marketplaces assume payments should happen inside the platform.
But in Malawi, that’s not always how people prefer to trade.
So instead of forcing payments, Nsikacart currently focuses on something simpler: connecting buyers and sellers directly - like a real “nsika” (market).
This removes friction:
No payment setup required
Easier onboarding
More natural conversations between buyers and sellers
At this stage, we’re not chasing scale.
We’re testing behavior.
How do people browse? What makes them engage? What makes them trust a listing?
Those answers will shape what Nsikacart becomes.

Nsikacart was hunted by Kelvin KAY Katoya. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
