Six years after the initial launch, I'm excited to launch NSFW Filter V3!
NSFW Filter is a free, open source, and privacy-focused browser extension that blocks NSFW content using AI. Everything runs inside your browser, and no data is sent anywhere.
The V3 version adheres to the latest Chrome Web Store policies and includes a faster, more capable model and a completely rebuilt interface.
We have also added new features our user group has requested over the years.
And as always, this will be free and open source. Forever.
how well does the ai actually handle false positives on like artistic nudity or medical content, or does it just blanket block anything that looks risky?
How well does the AI model handle false positives on stuff like art or medical content, and is there a way to whitelist specific sites or images when it gets things wrong?
Running the model client-side is a really thoughtful call, keeps the whole thing honest about its privacy promise instead of just slapping the word on the landing page. Open sourcing the inference pipeline on top of that takes guts.
Does the AI model update on its own over time or would I need to manually pull new versions to catch up with evolving content trends?

Who hunted NSFW Filter?
NSFW Filter was hunted by Navendu Pottekkat. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
