👋Hey Product Hunt! I'm Jareer, the Founder of Nourous
We built Nourous around a simple belief: recommendation algorithms shouldn't quietly decide what your attention gets spent on — you should.
YouTube is where we're starting, because it's where this problem shows up most visibly. A kid opens the app to watch one thing, and twenty minutes later they're three recommendation-clicks deep into something completely different. But the underlying issue isn't specific to YouTube — it's how any infinite-feed platform is designed to optimize for watch time over intent. That's the problem we're actually going after.
Existing solutions tend to force a tradeoff we didn't want to accept: heavy-handed blocklists that kill the app's usefulness, or cloud-based monitoring tools that mean sending a family's viewing activity off to a third-party server. We wanted something that worked with the platform's usefulness intact, while keeping everything private by design — all processing happens on-device, nothing about what your family watches ever leaves the device.
Under the hood is what we call the Adaptation Engine — a lightweight system that learns what "on-track" looks like for each profile over time, and gets better at recognizing intent the more it's used, rather than relying on rigid rules someone set once and forgot about.
Our approach evolved a lot to get here. We went through a few different architectures — including one that tried to work at the network level — before realizing that route was fundamentally incompatible with doing this privately and precisely. Landing on on-device, per-app intelligence was the real unlock, and it's also what makes the platform-agnostic vision possible: the same approach that works for YouTube today can extend to wherever attention gets hijacked next.
Personal Mode is free. Parent Mode adds multi-profile support for families.
Would love to hear what you think — and especially where you'd want this to go next. 🙏
Really nice launch! What I like most about Nourous is the emphasis on adaptive AI content filtering for YouTube. It is specific, useful, and easy to see fitting into a real workflow. Congratulations and best of luck today!
