If you use Notepad as a scratchpad, you know the problem: dozens or hundreds of unsaved tabs, and closing it means a wall of "Do you want to save?" prompts. Notepad does have Save All — but for tabs you've never saved, it opens a separate Save As box for each one. With 200 tabs that's not a fix. I built a small tool that reads them all at once (works while Notepad is open or closed), auto-names each file (or makes it real easy for you to rename manually) from its first line, flags duplicates, and writes the lot to one folder. No per-file save dialogs. Free version on the Microsoft Store saves 15 tabs per scan, no time limit, no account — enough to see if it's useful to you. One honest caveat: it needs the modern tabbed Notepad (default on Win11, or free Store app on Win10). The old classic Notepad keeps no recoverable data, so there's nothing to rescue there. In addition, I made an MCP server for Notepad too. So now you can have Claude, for example, read your notepad notes based on meaning and not just keywords: "Find all my Notepad tabs about recipes and save them to Desktop\Recipes" — and it gets them all, even though one says tortillas and another says tamarind and they share no keyword "Do any of my tabs contain something that looks like an API key?" (In of itself Notepad Rescue is completely private, no telemerty. If you use it in conjunction with your AI platform, just be aware there is telemetry with that.) "Summarize what I was working on last month" Deliberate design choice: the connector has no delete or edit tool. It can list, read, search, and save copies — that's it. I didn't want a confidently-wrong AI nuking someone's notes. As far as I can find, nothing else connects Windows Notepad to AI — closest is an MCP server for Notepad++, which is a different app that saves files normally anyway. Comment highlights

I developed this software out of a need I had to save all the hundreds of unsaved notepad tabs in my notepad app. There is a free trial on Microsoft Store with a link within the app to upgrade to full version that has the MCP connect so you can search trough your notepad files for that tiny bit of code or login you need. I would appreciate any feedback to make this better for all of us. Thanks!

Who hunted Notepad Rescue?

Notepad Rescue was hunted by Robert. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
