Most notch apps just show what's playing. NotchAbove lets you control it: switch between speakers and AirPods in one click, and set each device's volume before you switch. It also puts your day in the notch: join your next call, run focus timers, take eye breaks, keep notes and to-dos, and check your Claude Code and Codex usage limits. A little companion peeks out to keep you company. Works on any Mac, even without a notch. Pay once, no subscription.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Sharman, and I built NotchAbove for myself. I moved from a Windows laptop to a Mac mini with several speakers and headphones plugged in. Switching between them was a hassle, and the real problem was the volume. macOS lets you switch, but the sound was never at the right level. I'd switch while music or a movie was playing, and it would either blast in my ears or be so quiet I had to fix it every time. So I built the thing I wanted: click the notch, see every output, and set each one's volume BEFORE you switch. No more surprises in your ears. Then I kept running into other small problems every day. I looked at other apps, but I'd have needed a separate app for each one, each with its own icon, settings and price. I didn't want ten apps. So I made NotchAbove a one-stop shop, all in the notch: 👀 Care for my eyes. I wear glasses and have dry eyes, and long days at the screen made them worse. So the notch reminds me to rest them: every so often it asks me to look at something far away for a few seconds, and there are short voice-guided exercises, like blinking, that I can follow without even looking at the screen. It never interrupts a call or a video. 🔔 Alerts that go away. Mac notifications slide in from the side and hang around, sometimes forever. NotchAbove tells you from the notch for a few seconds, then it's gone: when your AI agent needs you, a timer ends, or it's time to drink water. 🌿 Git without the terminal. Typing commands just to push and pull was painful, and GitHub Desktop felt too heavy to keep open. Now I commit, push and pull right from the notch. 🤖 One place for my AI tools. I code with AI in the terminal, and I was always checking how close I was to my limits. The notch shows my Claude Code, Codex and Cursor activity, plus my Claude and Codex usage limits, without a browser tab or another app open. 💸 Sales at a glance. I couldn't keep my Dodo Payments dashboard open all day, so my sales live in the notch now. ✨ A little positivity. Affirmations pop up through the day to keep me motivated while I work. And a lot more, each one a small daily annoyance: • Hunting for the meeting link → your next call, one-click Join, and a reminder you can't miss • One app too loud next to another → set each app's volume separately • Mac feeling slow → see what's using your CPU, memory and disk, plus battery health • Mac falling asleep mid-download → keep it awake for 30 min, an hour, or until you say so • Lost something you copied an hour ago → clipboard history • Dragging files between windows → drop them on the notch shelf, AirDrop from there • Messy windows → snap them into place and save your desk layouts • Quick maths, units, currency or "3pm in Tokyo" → just type it in the notch • Notes, to-dos ("call mom at 5pm" reminds you at 5), world clocks, weather, a camera check before calls, sing-along lyrics, and mini games for your breaks Open it up and look around. I bet one of these fixes something that bugs you every day. The other part is personal. I always wanted a fun companion to keep me company, but I'm honestly scared of real pets 😅 With NotchAbove I can have any pet I want: cats, dogs, a capybara, a baby dragon and more peek out of the notch. With some of them you can even feed and play with them. It works on Macs without a notch too, and it's a one-time purchase, no subscription. The first 100 copies are at a founders price of $1.99. I'd love to know: what's the one thing you'd want living in your notch? And which companion would you pick? 🐈‍⬛
