Nostaliga turns your listening history into a personal timeline. Pick any song and see the day around it: your photos, places, runs, check-ins, shows and posts. Plus On This Day across the years. No account, no tracking; your timeline lives on your device.
Every time I hear "1-800-273-8255" by Logic, I'm back in 2017. It was my first year of cycling, and I was doing long rides with that song on repeat. I can almost feel the road again. The song remembers those rides better than I do, but the routes and photos from them were scattered across Strava, my camera roll and Last.fm.
That's why I built Nostaliga, an iPhone and iPad app I've been working on for the past few months.
When a song plays, Nostaliga looks through your listening history and brings back the photos, places, rides and moments from the times you played it before. Nostaliga brings your music, photos, workouts, walks, places you've been, and movies and shows you've watched into one timeline. You can also go back to the same date in earlier years.
It works with Apple Music, Last.fm, Photos, Apple Health, Strava, Swarm, Trakt and Calendar. You can also import your Spotify listening history and your Twitter, Instagram or Facebook archives. There's no account, and no analytics or tracking. Your timeline is built and stored on your device.
It's free. I'd love to know: which song takes you straight back to a specific time in your life? 🎶
What a lovely idea! As a photographer I have thousands of photos, and somehow the song playing that day is what brings the memory back, not the picture.
Any plans for YouTube Music? That's where most of my listening lives, and I'd love to see my history there turned into a timeline like this.
Congrats on the launch!
Does the Spotify import pick up new plays on its own after the first import, or do I have to export again every time?
