Netshare is a free, open-source app to securely share files between two computers or between a computer and mobile device over the same Wi-Fi, without relying on the internet.
I built NetShare because I kept running into the same frustrating situation, such as moving files between devices should feel simple, but most solutions either depend on the cloud, require accounts, compress files, or become painfully slow when internet quality is bad.
As someone who works across phones, tablets, and computers every day, I wanted a faster and more private way to transfer files locally without uploading anything to external servers. Existing tools often felt bloated, unreliable on local networks, or filled with unnecessary setup steps.
The original idea started as a lightweight utility for my own workflow. Over time, it evolved into a local-first sharing experience focused on three things: speed, simplicity, and privacy. The goal became making file transfer feel almost invisible: open the app, connect to a hosting server by filling IP address in local network, and share instantly.
Being open-source also shaped the product significantly. The launch itself became less about “shipping an app” and more about building a practical tool people can trust and use for long-term.
