NeoTalker
Ultra-lightweight TTS synthesizer in Rust & SVOX Pico
While modern TTS apps push heavy cloud AI and costly subscriptions, NeoTalker takes a radically fast, privacy-first route. Built with Rust and Tauri, it revives the classic, crystal-clear PicoTTS engine in an ultra-lightweight desktop app (~25MB, <50MB RAM). Features: • Featherweight footprint • Offline privacy: zero telemetry • Unrestricted exports: queue hours of audios to MP3/OGG/WAV • DSP vibrato & smart text normalizer • Nostalgic pricing: pay once, keep forever. Built for Windows by Yeib.
Hi Product Hunt community! I’m Yeib, an indie developer behind NeoTalker.
Today, almost every Text-to-Speech tool is trying to clone realistic human voices using heavy cloud models. While impressive, they often come with high latency, strict character limits, privacy concerns, and monthly subscription fatigue.
I wanted something different for my own daily reading and study workflow:
- Instant & reliable: No waiting for cloud servers. Hit play and it speaks instantly.
- Featherweight: Uses less than 50MB of RAM and takes ~25MB of disk space.
- Truly offline & private: No telemetry, no accounts, zero tracking.
- No limits: An asynchronous FIFO export queue so you can convert entire books or articles into MP3/OGG/WAV in the background while you sleep or work.
To achieve this, I paired the native speed of Rust & Tauri with the legendary, articulate PicoTTS engine (the iconic voice synthesizer that powered early mobile systems), complete with custom DSP vibrato modulation and smart text normalization for currencies, dates, and symbols.
Best of all: it follows the classic software model. Pay once, keep it forever.
NeoTalker is launching on the Microsoft Store, and I would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or feature requests!
Thanks for checking it out! :D
