Hey Hunter, 👋 I started building Nativia around a problem I kept coming back to: language apps can make you pretty good at learning a language without necessarily making you good at living in that language. You can know the vocabulary. You can understand the grammar. You can have a long streak. And then a local speaks to you naturally and suddenly everything is too fast or you know exactly what you want to say but can’t build the sentence quickly enough. So I started wondering: what if practicing a language felt less like completing lessons and more like actually moving abroad? That idea eventually became Nativia. You move to a new city, meet people, get into conversations, receive calls and deal with everyday situations. But the story isn’t fixed. You speak freely with your own voice, and what you say and decide can change what happens next. That part evolved a lot while building it. At first, the focus was mainly on natural listening and speaking practice. But I realized that even a great learning method doesn’t matter much if people don’t want to come back tomorrow. So the story became much more important. Characters return. Decisions have consequences. You build relationships, collect things and progress through a life rather than a sequence of lessons. The learning still happens underneath: listen first, use help only when you need it, answer freely, then get feedback on grammar, pronunciation and how a native speaker might phrase it. The question I’d genuinely love to hear your take on: Would you rather have a language app become more like a personal tutor or more like a game/world? I’m increasingly convinced the future might need both. Would love your feedback especially the critical kind. ❤️

Who hunted Nativia?

Nativia was hunted by Luca Christ. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
