I built an app called "NAS Photos & Stories" that lets you view photos from your Synology Photos library as Stories. It's currently built for iOS only, but Android is still in the plans if the app proves to be useful. This is the one feature I always felt was missing from Synology’s own solution. Currently, the app offers a very basic version of Synology Photos functionality but in read-only mode – meaning it doesn't allow you to modify your photos. The main goal was simply to bring that sought-after "Stories" experience to the platform. How does it work? The app communicates directly with your NAS, there are no intermediary servers involved. Stories are generated daily based on the photos you have from previous years. Built-in logic prevents the display of duplicates or visually similar photos. There are currently three types of Stories: 1. On This Day — shows a selection of photos taken on this day in previous years; if there aren't enough photos, it expands the search range by ±3 days. 2. Starring [Name] — selects one recognized person each day and displays their photos from this date in previous years (requires AI recognition to be enabled on your NAS). 3. Album Anniversary — finds a user-created album with an anniversary falling on the current date (or within ±3 days) and creates a Story using its best photos. No trackers, no ads. Regarding monetization, there are no subscriptions; instead, there is a one-time lifetime payment to unlock Story generation (the first Story is free so you can try out the feature). This revenue helps me maintain the app, cover annual Apple developer fees, and develop new features and improvements. That's it! I am really interested in your feedback.
