What inspired you to build this?
I kept running into the same problem myself — trying to figure out how much asphalt to order for a small paving job and realizing every "calculator" online either skipped the cost estimate, ignored waste allowance, or buried the math in engineering jargon I didn't want to decode. Most contractors and homeowners just end up guessing, which means either paying for a rushed second delivery or wasting money on unused material. That gap between "I need a number" and "here's a confusing formula" is what got me building.
What are you trying to solve?
The core problem is simple: ordering asphalt shouldn't require an engineering degree or a phone call just to sanity-check a supplier's quote. MyAsphaltCalc takes your shape, dimensions, thickness, and mix type, and instantly gives you the tonnage needed, a rounded order size that matches what suppliers actually sell in, and a real cost estimate — in imperial or metric. No signup required, just the number you came for.
How did your approach or process evolve while working on this launch?
I started with a basic area × thickness calculator, but quickly realized tonnage alone wasn't enough — people also needed cost, and a practical order size instead of a raw decimal like "9.14 tons" no supplier would actually sell. So I added waste allowance, price-per-ton input, and rounding to match real order quantities. I also added a full formula breakdown and worked example, so people can trust the number instead of getting a black-box result.
