Mossca
A local macOS music player for large lossless libraries
A minimalist local lossless music player for Mac, built for accurate sound reproduction, external DAC setups, DSD playback, and headphone profiles with target curves and custom EQ imports.
Why I Built Mossca
I built Mossca because I could never find a local lossless music player that truly met my own requirements.
I have a collection of about 6,000+ albums, and it is still growing. There are many different formats in it, including DSD.
I listen to these albums every day. The player I want should be genuinely friendly to a large music library, making it easy for me to browse, choose, and listen every day. The interface should be simple, modern, and have a certain sense of aesthetics. Playback should not be too complicated. I simply want it to restore the original sound as much as possible, without too much interference from so-called algorithmic processing. And I do not want any messy ads, recommendations, or features that have nothing to do with listening to music. Simple, pure, focused on listening.
Of course, I also use a DAC, so I want the player to work well with DAC playback, especially for DSD playback.
After trying many players, I kept running into different problems.
Some sounded good, but the overall experience felt outdated, with an interface that looked like it was from the 2000s.
Some looked fine on the surface, but added unnecessary sound-processing tricks and a lot of bloated features. It is hard for me to accept using that kind of software every day. What I want is just music.
Some players became almost unusably slow right after importing my music library.
Others were acceptable in many areas, but only just acceptable, and the sound quality still did not meet my expectations.
Mossca started from here.
I want to build a player centered around local lossless music. Simple, pure, and everything is for listening to music itself.
It should be friendly to large music libraries, because our collections are rarely just a few albums. They are our treasure.
It should care about sound quality, respect the sound itself, and pursue accurate reproduction as much as possible. EQ and post-processing effects are not the focus here.
It should be simple and easy to use, while still having a sense of UI aesthetics. Music is not only sound, especially when it is software you use every day.
It should always stay simple. Everything exists only because it is necessary for listening to local music. No account, no cloud service, no ads, and no features unrelated to listening to music. Stay restrained. Stay focused.
For all of you who love listening to local music.
