Hey Product Hunt,
I built Minute because I got uncomfortable with how meeting notetakers work. Most of them are a microphone hooked up to somebody else's server. Salary negotiations, customer calls, ideas you haven't thought through yet: all of it gets uploaded and kept by a company whose privacy policy you've never read.
Minute is a notebook instead. It records on your Mac, Whisper transcribes on-device, and a local LLM writes the summary, decisions, and action items. You can ask a question about any meeting and get an answer with timestamp citations, also computed locally. My favorite test: turn off Wi-Fi and record. Nothing changes, because nothing was using the network in the first place.
Some parts I'm happy with:
- When Zoom or Teams or a browser call grabs your mic, a small pill offers to start recording. One click. It's off by default because I hate software that watches me without asking.
- Speaker labels run locally too, so a transcript reads like a conversation instead of a wall of text.
- Notes are plain text and WAV files in a folder. Delete the app and they're still yours.
- It's a Rust app with whisper.cpp and llama.cpp compiled in, running on Metal. Signed and notarized by Apple.
Rough edges, honestly: macOS only, models download on first use, there's an update check against GitHub you can turn off, and the Intel build has seen less real hardware than Apple Silicon.
It's free and MIT licensed. If you take meeting notes some other way today, I'm curious what it is — and what it would take for Minute to fit.
