Free, open-source menu bar app for macOS that splits RAM by user account, groups helper processes into their apps, and shows memory pressure, swap, and a short history. Built for shared Macs, light enough for any Mac. No network, no tracking
Hi Product Hunt, Im the developer of MemStats
I built it because our team shares a few Macs, and when one got slow, Activity Monitor told me which processes were big but not whose they were. MemStats answers that in one click: a donut of RAM by user, then the top apps and processes for everyone or for the user you pick
A few details I cared about:
- Top Apps/Top Processes shows what the user actually launched (Chrome, VS Code, Node, Dart/Flutter,...)
- The menu bar title turns green, orange, or red from the same pressure signal Activity Monitor uses
- History is kept in memory only (about ten minutes), as a line chart or a heatmap
- No network requests, 8 languages, MIT licensed
Honest caveat: the build is not notarized yet, so the first launch needs Open Anyway in System Settings
I'd love feedback on what you'd want to see next

Who hunted MemStats?
MemStats was hunted by Chung Xon. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
