MemoryLane indexes the photo and video folders you already have and turns them into a fast, rediscoverable library on your own machine. Built for people with large archives and for photographers.
I am a long term photographer (25+ years) and have accumulated a lifetime of memories (over 3 TB) and precious images over the years not only from my DSLR, Mirrorless cameras, but also from from phones. They all sat collecting dust in my NAS PC for the past 10+ years and I only saw a few of the photos when I was searching through that index. It was just impossible to browse pictures effectively via Windows Explorer and I could never load all of those 150k+ images into Lightoorm.
When my PC finally needed to be upgraded, I realized the size of my photo archive and decided to do something about it. I along with another photographer friend built and launched MemoryLane (free, Open Source, MIT) which aims to help you discover all your old photos sitting in your hard drives.
The whole idea is quick rediscovery without doing much work. Opening the main page for MemoryLane quickly starts up a random pictures feed (very smart about what you have seen vs not seen, so it serves up truly random images). There is a section for Surprise me which again serves images over time.
Everything is local and nothing is sent to the cloud. All data is stored locally and your account is also local to access your files. You can enable remote network access from your LAN if you want.
Where MemoryLane truly shines is the sheer amount of ways to slice and dice your photos. For photographers especially, the gear museum, gear timeline, exif browser (like lightroom) all will make them happy as it did us. You can view photos using GPS info. With local AI enabled, you can get people detection, tagging, similar photo search and more.
The app handles all RAW formats, live photos and even stacks photos that were taken together quicky.
We are looking to gift this to all the people to rediscover their story and for photographers to enjoy the hard fruits of their labor! Hope you ave fun!

Who hunted MemoryLane?
MemoryLane was hunted by Madhan Kanagavel. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
