I built MediaExplorer because I wanted a better way to browse my large media collection without reorganizing everything into a separate library or have to constantly update it.

Windows Explorer works well for general file management, but once a folder contains hundreds of images, videos, albums, comics, games, or PDFs, I wanted something more visual. MediaExplorer keeps the existing folder structure and turns it into a customizable thumbnail-based view instead. Sort of like a local Netflix for your images and videos. I've tried other media programs, but they were either limited in function or painfully slow when folders got too large.

The project started as a simple media browser and gradually grew around the ways I actually wanted to use it: fullscreen viewing, custom folder artwork, Mega View for browsing across folders, launching games, and now Collection View for gathering files from different folders into saved collections.

The goal has stayed the same throughout: make local media easier and more enjoyable to explore without requiring imports, long setup, accounts, or cloud storage.

I’d love to hear how other people manage large local collections and what you’d want from a tool like this.
