Maybuy started because I was planning my back-to-university purchases and genuinely couldn’t figure out a good way to filter which things I’d actually make use of. I had a bunch of stuff I wanted, different reasons for each, and I kept trying to come up with some kind of system or algorithm for weighing everything properly.
That eventually turned into Maybuy.
Basically, you give it something you’re thinking about buying, add some context around the purchase, answer a few questions, and it gives you a buy, wait, or skip second opinion with the reasoning behind it. It looks at things like your priorities, expected use, timing, budget context, and the tradeoffs around the purchase.
You can also group bigger decisions into shopping sessions, keep track of everything in History, and use Insights to start seeing patterns in your own purchasing habits over time. And if Maybuy says wait, you can leave it for a cooling-off period and come back to re-evaluate it later instead of feeling like you need to decide right away.
I’m also in the process of launching the chrome extension, which brings Maybuy directly onto product pages so you can get a second opinion while you’re shopping and add things back into a session.
The biggest thing for me is that Maybuy isn’t meant to make the decision for you. It works around your own context, and you can still completely disagree with the recommendation. I just wanted something that made the decision easier to think through and made my own reasoning a bit clearer.
I’ve been building and polishing this for a while now so putting it in front of people I don’t know feels a little surreal lol.
