Markdown Preview is a free, client-side Markdown editor and live preview. Your documents never leave the browser; open sensitive drafts without uploading them to a server. Edit with on-device AI (Write, Rewrite, Proofread in supported Chrome), listen with local text-to-speech and word highlighting, and share compressed links that still process entirely on the client. Also: Mermaid diagrams, GitHub alerts, Present/Slides modes, and an installable offline PWA.
I built Markdown Preview because I kept pasting drafts into online Markdown viewers and didn’t love the idea of sensitive docs hitting someone else’s server. I wanted something that stays fully in the browser.
What it does:
• Live split-pane editor + preview. Nothing is uploaded for rendering
• Local AI text tools (Write / Rewrite / Proofread) on supported Chrome builds
• Local text-to-speech with word highlighting
• Mermaid, GitHub alerts, syntax highlighting, Present/Slides modes
• Shareable links (Markdown compressed into the URL hash, still client-side)
• Installable PWA. Works offline and can open .md files on Chromium desktop
Still rough: mobile layout, very long share links can get truncated by some apps, and the on-device AI menu only appears when Chrome exposes those APIs.
I’d love feedback, especially:
1. Would you trust this for private/work docs? What would make that clearer?
2. What’s missing before you’d bookmark or install it (export, more themes, better mobile, etc.)?
