Maozai (猫在) is a kitten on your iPhone and Apple Watch with a day of its own. It gets hungry at mealtimes and thirsty between meals, moves when you move and goes to bed when you should, so looking after it reminds you to eat, drink water and sleep. It reacts to steps and rings from Apple Health (read-only, stays on your device), talks back briefly and keeps a diary of your day. Six kittens free, six more breeds in mystery boxes. No account, no ads.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Will, a solo developer in LA (formerly a software engineer at Tencent), and this is my first app. I made Maozai (猫在, "the cat is here" in Chinese) because reminders to eat lunch or drink water are easy to swipe away. A hungry cat is not.
So instead of notifications that nag, you get a kitten with a day of its own. At mealtimes it waits by an empty bowl; between meals it gets thirsty; at night it goes to bed and tells you to do the same. With your permission it reads steps, exercise minutes, heart rate and activity rings from Apple Health (read-only, and it never leaves your device): every 2,000 steps earns it a fish treat, and closing your rings gets it a party hat.
On Apple Watch it's one glance away: hold to pet it, turn the Digital Crown to tease it, tap once to answer it.
What's free and what isn't, upfront: six kittens, every reminder, the diary, the watch app and 20 AI chat replies a day are free. Six more breeds (Ragdoll, Minuet, Bengal, British Golden, American Shorthair, Norwegian Forest) come in mystery boxes at $1.99: the odds are shown before you pay and you never get a duplicate, so six boxes always complete the set. Switch cats any time; each keeps its own chats and diary. Maozai Plus ($4.99/month or $29.99/year in the US) only lifts the chat limit. No account, no ads, no tracking.
Full disclosure: the kittens are AI-generated images and clips I made for the app. Available in 147 App Store regions; not yet in the EU.
I'd love to hear what you'd want the cat to notice next.

Who hunted Maozai?
Maozai was hunted by weiwei Wang. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
