Magpie
Download video and audio from the web - clean, fast, no junk
Most "downloaders" are ad funnels: fake buttons, a survey, a watermark burned into your file. Magpie is a real extension. Reddit posts and direct media files download on your own device, unlimited and free forever, and Reddit's separate video and audio streams get merged into one proper MP4. Session-gated sites like YouTube, TikTok and Twitch cannot be grabbed inside the browser, so those route through our servers: 3 free to try, then Pro. No ads, no bundled junk, no watermarks.
Hey everyone,
Magpie started because every site that offers to download a video is an ad funnel. Three fake buttons, a survey, and a file with someone else's watermark burned into it.
So this is an extension instead. Reddit posts and direct media files are fetched on your own machine, unlimited and free forever. Reddit is the fiddly one. It stores video and audio as two separate streams, so Magpie pulls both and merges them into one MP4. No silent clips.
YouTube, TikTok, Twitch and the rest session-gate their video, so the browser genuinely cannot reach it. Those go through my server, and I would rather say that plainly than pretend the whole thing is local. Free includes 3 of them to try, and Pro lifts the cap.
Firefox only. The Chrome Web Store does not allow extensions that download from YouTube, so Magpie lives on Firefox and that is unlikely to change.
It has been quietly live for a while with 41 users and no real launch. Tell me which sites fail for you. That is the list I work from.

Who hunted Magpie?
Magpie was hunted by Rob Stand. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
