I make madpixelsort, a little desktop pixel-sorting app. People kept asking it to do more - layers, animation, other effects, sound. So I spent the last stretch building the thing it always wanted to be.
madphase is a compositing studio for images and video. You build in non-destructive layers - 66 effect families, 186 sub-modes - and nothing bakes in until you export. Keyframe any parameter. And the fun part: drive anything with sound - level, frequency band, or beats, from a file, a video's own track, or a live mic.
It's not a photo editor and it's not AI generation. You start from an image, footage, or nothing at all, and compose. The live preview is the export, frame for frame.

A note on the tech, since it's Product Hunt: madphase is GPU-native — every effect runs on the GPU and stays there between passes, so the preview is real-time and the file you export is the exact pixels you were looking at, frame for frame. It's a native desktop app built in Rust, not a browser wrapper — which is why you can stack dozens of effects, run live particle sims and reaction-diffusion, and keep scrubbing the timeline without it falling over. macOS + Windows, hardware-encoded video export.
