After our HGTV series aired in 2022, my wife/business partner and I were wiped. We knew we didn’t want to be TV personalities long term.
But working on that massive stage shed light on something interesting: A LOT of people need design help, yet most people don’t use designers. 83% of homeowners and 97% of renters are DIY-ing their interior design.
Main reason? Price. Design services usually start at $3k per room. Need help with your living room, dining room and bedroom? Around $10K
Prior to starting Colossus Mfg. (our interior design studio) we both had past careers in tech. So we decided to go all in on building a tool that could connect our studio's workflows and leverage AI to make interior design accessible to anyone.
The product req's looked something like this:
• Produce high quality, unique design
• Retain spatial consistency
• Involve zero prompting
• Let users retain creativity
• Be instantly shoppable
We spent months perfecting the process of training and creative directing models and not relying on prompts, in order to solve "temporal consistency" - making sure your redesigned room still makes sense as a real space, to ensure a chair remains a chair while completely transforming how it looks.
Blood, sweat and 16 months of bootstrapped development. But finally, Madespace is live on the App Store.
Also, for a limited time, an annual subscription also gets you a free live video design consultation (with us, the founders). Definitely not scalable, but it certainly justifies the price of entry.
This is just V1, but the roadmap is packed and we're excited for what’s next.
What stands out here is the emotional hook people want beautiful spaces but usually associate design with high cost. By removing that barrier, you’re shifting brand perception from ‘luxury’ to ‘everyday tool.’ That’s a powerful marketing position.
