LocalBG
Offline background removal for images, videos and GIFs
LocalBG is the offline alternative to remove.bg. It removes backgrounds from images, videos and GIFs on your own computer, with batch processing, shadows, PSD export and a CLI. No uploads, no credits. Free for unlimited single images.
Hi Product Hunt, I'm Rob, the solo developer behind LocalBG.
I started building it almost 2 years ago after seeing how fast per-image costs add up with cloud background removers, and that every photo had to be uploaded first. LocalBG does the same job entirely on your own computer: no uploads, no credits, no internet needed.
This is a relaunch. Since my first launch a lot has changed:
- Video and GIF background removal
- Native macOS support, plus GPU acceleration for NVIDIA, AMD and Intel on Windows
- A CLI for automation and scripting
- PSD export with separate layers, and alpha mask export
- Ground-contact shadows and floor reflections
- A Level tool that straightens tilted product photos
- Importing your own ONNX models (BiRefNet, U²-Net, RMBG and more)
- Folder handling for big batches: it keeps your folder structure and skips photos that are already done
- A completely redesigned interface, and LocalBG is now on the Microsoft Store
Free: unlimited single images, custom backgrounds, sticker export and the CLI.
Pro (€8/month, or yearly with 5% off): bulk processing, video and GIF, shadows, reflections, PSD export and more.
With remove.bg closing on December 1st, I'd love to hear what you'd want from an offline alternative. What's missing for your workflow? I read and answer everything.
