Hello Product Hunt community! 👋 I'm Kitano Sanzaishi, the maker of LINK BOX, a local asset management tool for video editors. I’m incredibly excited to share it with you all today!

🎬 Why I built LINK BOX (My Story)

As a side hustle, I edit videos for influencers and YouTubers. Since my time is limited, I want to spend it actually editing, not dealing with asset preparation and management. To improve efficiency, I tried several asset management apps.

However, they all had drawbacks for my workflow: "They reproduce your folder structure, but force you to use their proprietary structure to add new assets" and "They have too many features like complex tags and favorites, which actually take more time to learn and manage."

I just wanted a simple, intuitive app where "I can use my meticulously organized local folders as-is, and any new assets added to those folders are instantly reflected in the app." So, I built LINK BOX myself.

During development, I realized: "If I could manage them further with 'Virtual Folders' inside the app, selecting assets for each project would be so intuitive!" and "If I can organize everything within the app, it's safer if it's designed to never affect the original folders." That's how these practical features came to life.

✨ Key Features Here is what sets LINK BOX apart from existing apps:

  • 📂 Zero-Copy Sync: It reads your local folders "as-is" without creating proprietary app folders. Files are not duplicated, saving your precious storage space. If you add assets to your local folder, just hit the update button to sync them instantly.

  • 🏷️ Virtual Collections: Group and organize your files virtually by purpose (e.g., "For Client A", "For Channel B") without ever moving the original data.

  • 🔒 Safe for Local Folders: No matter how much you organize inside the app, it's safely designed to never unintentionally delete, move, or affect your original files.

  • Hover Preview: Easily preview video and audio files just by hovering your mouse over the thumbnails.

  • 📥 Direct NLE Integration: Drag and drop the assets you want to use straight into the timelines of Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

🎯 Who it’s for

  • People who already meticulously organize their assets in local folders.

  • People who hate being forced to put their files into an app's "proprietary folders."

  • People who are afraid of management apps altering or messing with their original folders.

  • Anyone who wants to streamline their video editing workflow.

💬 Ask for Feedback As an indie maker, I would love to hear your honest opinions! How do you currently manage your massive video assets? If you have any feedback on the UI usability or feature requests, please let me know in the comments!

Comment highlights

How does the 1-click sync actually keep up if I'm adding hundreds of clips a day — does it watch the folder in real time or only when I hit the button?

The zero-copy setup is a game changer for my project drives. Was surprised how clean it stays without touching my original folder structure.

Does the 1-click sync watch those local folders continuously in the background, or do I need to manually trigger it each time I add new files?

Does the 1-click sync run continuously in the background, or do I need to manually trigger it each time I add new files? Also wondering if it plays nice with proxies or if everything has to be the original media.

Love that it just reads my existing folders without messing with anything. The hover playback preview alone is worth it for cutting down on opening files just to check them.
