LingoMacBar: Mac Menu Bar Translator
Translate instantly from your Mac menu bar with one shortcut
LingoMacBar is a lightweight macOS menu bar translator that lets you translate text instantly using Google Translate or DeepL—without opening a browser or switching between apps. Open it with a customizable keyboard shortcut, choose your preferred translation engine, and keep working in a clean, distraction-free interface. It supports light and dark modes, requires no account, has no ads or tracking, and is built with Swift, SwiftUI, and WebKit for a fast native Mac experience.
I built LingoMacBar because translating a sentence usually means breaking your workflow: opening a browser, finding the right tab, copying text, pasting it, and then switching back again.
I wanted something much simpler—a translator that stays quietly in the Mac menu bar and is always available when needed. LingoMacBar started as a small Swift and SwiftUI experiment and evolved into a focused translation tool with Google Translate and DeepL support, customizable shortcuts, light and dark modes, and a clean interface without ads or tracking.
It’s useful for developers reading documentation, students researching in other languages, writers, remote workers, travelers, and anyone who works across languages.
I’d love your feedback:
• Which translation engine do you use most—Google Translate or DeepL?• What keyboard shortcut would feel most natural to you?• Would you like additional features such as text selection translation or clipboard history?
