I built Last Seen Up because every monitor I tried had the same problem: it woke me up for things that weren't outages. One refused connection at 3am, a 30-second blip during a deploy, a monitor flapping and sending twelve notifications about the same bad night. After enough of those you start ignoring the alerts — which defeats the entire point of having them.
So the product is built around what it refuses to do:
• A failure has to repeat before an incident opens. One bad packet is not an outage.
• Degraded shows on the dashboard and the chart, but it never pages anyone.
• A flapping monitor collapses into a single notification until it settles.
• Maintenance windows pause the alerts, not the record — you still get the full history.
When something is genuinely down, it goes the other way entirely: a push, a live countdown on your iOS lock screen you can acknowledge without unlocking the phone, and a phone call if nobody answers it.
It watches HTTP, TCP, ping, DNS, SSL certificate expiry, domain registration expiry (the renewal everyone assumed someone else had handled), and heartbeats for cron jobs that quietly stop running.
