I built LapDeck because I kept reaching for my laptop to do things a phone should be able to do for me — pause a video, nudge the volume, kill a presentation slide, or just lock the screen before walking away.
What it does: one Node.js process runs on your Windows laptop; your phone becomes a remote deck for it over your own Wi-Fi. That gets you:
An app launcher you customize from your phone
A touchpad with acceleration, gestures, and two-finger right-click
A keyboard with IME-safe typing (swipe-typing works) and your own custom shortcut buttons
A live screen view you can tap-to-click on, with a magnifier loupe
Media & power controls — volume, brightness, lock, sleep, shutdown, all with confirmation + an abort window
Why it's different from the usual "remote desktop" app: no account, no cloud relay, no company server sitting between your phone and your laptop. It's LAN-only by default. If you want to use it away from home, it auto-detects Tailscale and gives you a second QR code for a WireGuard-encrypted connection — still nothing routed through a third party.
On security, since it's controlling a machine: pairing is a random 256-bit token embedded in the QR code, every command (including the video stream) requires it, comparisons are constant-time, and destructive actions like shutdown are gated behind an explicit confirm + a configurable grace period to abort. Feature toggles are enforced server-side, not just hidden in the UI.

It's Windows-only for now (all the OS glue is isolated in one folder), MIT licensed, dependency-light, no build step, no TypeScript. Would genuinely love feedback — especially from anyone who tries pairing for the first time, since that's the moment I most want to get right. And if you've got a feature you want on the deck next, tell me — multi-monitor screen view and a native Android client are already on my list.
Honestly love that it runs on your own wifi with just one npm start, no cloud middleman nonsense. The live screen view alongside a touchpad and keyboard on the same phone feels really well thought out, like someone actually tried using it instead of just shipping a checklist of features.
