Lanternaut
Video & image hosting with bandwidth included, from $5/mo
Upload a video or image, copy one line of embed code, paste it anywhere HTML works (WordPress included). Lanternaut encodes adaptive streams from 240p up to 4K, keeps originals private behind signed links and allowed-domain rules, and delivers worldwide. Flat plans include bandwidth (750 GB/mo on the $5 plan, up to 20 TB on Scale), so a video taking off doesn't turn into a surprise bill. Dashboard, API, webhooks and captions built in, plus a free sandbox to try it first.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Lanternaut because putting your own video on your own site is still weirdly hard. You either hand it to a platform that wraps its brand and rules around your content, or you use a developer API that bills every gigabyte people watch, so a video doing well turns into an invoice you dread.
Lanternaut sits in between: upload a video or image, copy one line of embed code, paste it anywhere HTML works. That's the whole integration.
What you get:
• Adaptive streaming from 240p for slow connections up to 4K for big screens
• Originals stay private: short-lived signed links, and you choose which domains can play your media
• Bandwidth included in flat plans: 750 GB/mo on the $5 Starter plan, up to 20 TB on Scale
• Over your delivery allowance? The first 20% extra is free, then $3/TB from a prepaid wallet. No surprise invoices
• Encoding is $0.04/min past your included minutes, billed per second
• Captions, responsive image sizes, background-video loops, a full API, webhooks and an OpenAPI spec
• Public docs written so ChatGPT, Claude or another AI assistant can set it up for you
There's a free sandbox (30-second clips, watermarked, deleted after 24h), so you can try the API and player before paying anything.
It's in beta, so I'd really value blunt feedback: what would stop you moving your videos here?
