Kuvacult
Letterboxd, rebuilt for watching movies with friends
Kuvacult is a free social film diary for Windows, built because you can't edit a watchlist with friends on Letterboxd. Rate and review every film, and share watchlists your whole group can edit live with a six-letter code. When it's time to choose, Veto Sacrifice has everyone cut films until one remains, with ties settled by blackjack. Séances let you screen-share films you own and watch together. Hi Product Hunt, I'm a solo developer, and Kuvacult is the app I wished existed.
I've used Letterboxd for years, but one gap always frustrated me: there's no way to edit a watchlist with friends. You can share a list, but only its owner can add to it. Movie night turned into screenshots, group-chat links and a long debate about what to watch.
So I spent this summer rebuilding the idea from the ground up, with the group at the centre. In Kuvacult, a watchlist can be shared with a six-letter code, and everyone who joins can add films in real time. When it's time to choose, Veto Sacrifice lets each person cut films until one remains, with ties settled by a hand of blackjack. You can try that part in your browser on our site, no download needed. Séances then let you screen-share a film you own and watch together, without anything being hosted or stored by us.
It's still a complete film diary, with ratings, reviews, profiles and a friends feed. If you're coming from Letterboxd, you can import your history in seconds, so you don't have to start over.
Kuvacult is free on Windows with no subscriptions. iPhone, Android and macOS are next, and early access sign-ups are open on the website.
I'd value your honest feedback, especially on what would make you switch. I'll be here all day to answer questions.
