Most umbrella anchors ask you to bring the weight or dig for it — sand bags, augers, cast bases — and most only work in sand. Kū-Malu clamps the umbrella you already own. A patented self-aligning three-jaw grip centres itself on any pole from 20 to 38 mm: beach parasol, patio umbrella, market stall, sideline shade. The ballast base packs flat and fills on site with sand, gravel or stone — the weight holding it down is weight you never carried. Tool-free. Under two minutes.

Kū-Malu started from an unglamorous observation: almost every umbrella anchor on the market solves the problem by adding weight. Sand bags you fill and carry. Cast bases heavy enough that they live on the patio and never travel. Screw-in augers that want soft, clear ground and a bit of effort. They all work, more or less. None of them is a thing you'd happily carry to the sand, to a market stall, or to the sideline of a kids' football match. Maicol Sabeddu, who designed it, spent twenty-odd years as a welder and pipefitter before he started designing products — structural framework mostly, where the entire job is holding something steady against a load. His question was the obvious one nobody had acted on: why are we reinforcing the umbrella, when the ground already has all the weight we need? That turned into the two decisions the product rests on. Clamp, don't replace. A self-aligning three-jaw head grips the pole you already own — 20 to 38 mm — and centres itself as it tightens, so the load spreads across three faces instead of crushing one side. Nobody should have to buy a new umbrella to stop losing the one they have. Fill on site, don't carry. The ballast base packs flat, unfolds into four pockets, and zips shut at the corners. You fill it with whatever is underfoot — sand, gravel, stone. The weight holding it down is weight you never carried.

Who hunted Ku-Malu?

Ku-Malu was hunted by Swaranjeet Singh. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
