Kinu
Private personal CRM for people who notice the little things
Kinu is where you keep what you notice about people: birthdays, gift ideas, the new job a colleague mentioned over coffee. When it's been a while, a gentle reminder brings someone back to mind. No pipelines, no feed, no streaks. What you save is encrypted before it leaves your device. Free is the complete app with room for 10 people, no card and no time limit, on iPhone, Android or in a browser. Kinu Plus adds unlimited people and encrypted sync.
On the wall of my old room at my parents' house there's a photo of two sunburnt kids, about twelve, on a dock. One is me.
For more than ten years my family camped on the same stretch of Croatian coast with a group of friends, two months at a time. We caught crabs and turned whatever we had into a sport. Every summer, the other kid and I picked up exactly where we'd left off.
Those summers shaped my idea of what friendship is. Mostly, I think, it was attention. Spend that long with someone and you learn their small things.
Adult life doesn't hand you two months by the sea, so I looked for somewhere to keep the small things. Calendar reminders put "Call mom" between the dentist and the electricity bill. The two personal CRMs I tried pitched "nurture your network" and "follow up with contacts." Importing my Facebook, LinkedIn and phone contacts gave me more than 3,000 people I didn't want in there.
So I sketched the app I wanted on my phone, and that became Kinu. It holds birthdays, the stories people tell you and what comes up in passing, and reminds you before the dates that matter. The whole app is free with up to 10 people in it, on your phone or your laptop. No card needed.
Your data is encrypted on your device before it's uploaded. It isn't end-to-end encryption, though: the sync key is derived from your account, and the docs say so plainly. Happy to go into the details here.
By day my brother and I run Freshlab, a small digital studio in Velenje, Slovenia. I build Kinu alone, two or three hours most days, often from 5 AM. More than 100 people have signed up so far, and I read all the feedback myself.
When I describe Kinu, people go quiet for a second, then say a name. If someone came to mind just now, what's the first thing you'd save about them?

Who hunted Kinu?
Kinu was hunted by Urh Meza. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
