Hi PH — I built Kaishu because I finally finished some real Chinese books and wanted to keep going.
Background: I studied Chinese years ago, kept most of it, and wanted to push past textbook Chinese. The advice everyone gives is read real books, and it's good advice. My attempt at it was Pleco. It's an excellent dictionary — I have nothing bad to say. As a way to read a novel it didn't work especially for longer novels. Two apps, constant switching, and somewhere around chapter three I'd lose the thread and the book.
Kaishu is the reader I wished existed:

• Phrase-aware taps — hit one character of a word or idiom and the whole thing comes up
