Kaiary — Private Family Memory Vault
Natural language search for text, voice, photos, and video
Kaiary is an AI-empowered family journaling and media management app. Parents upload text or voice journals, audio, images, or videos. Media goes through automatic facial recognition and captioning. All content can be searched and filtered with natural language. AI stack runs on our own infrastructure so no family data is ever sent to Google, Anthropic, or OpenAI. Sharing happens only with in the family, with 'private', 'parents', 'and family' sharing settings. Keep the kids off Facebook!
Today we are soft-launching Kaiary on the App Store in the US and Canada (Android coming soon!)
Kaiary is an AI-empowered family journaling and media management application directed at parents (especially those with younger kids!).
How it works:
- Parents can upload text or voice journal entries about their kids/family, as well as images, videos, and audio files
- Images and videos go through automatic facial recognition and captioning -i.e. 'Dad and Kaia play frisbee in the backyard'.
- All content can be easily filtered and searched with natural language - i.e. 'Show me photos of Kaia being silly', 'show me photos from the family's trip to London', 'show me videos from Kaia's 3rd birthday party'.
- Content sharing is closed within the family. Parents choose if uploaded content remains private to themselves, is shared just between parents, or shared with the extended family (i.e. grandma and grandpa).
Privacy is paramount to our product. No family data is ever shared with any 3rd parties. AI models run entirely on our own servers. Nothing is ever sent to OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic. This was an expensive but necessary choice we made during our development process.
I originally started building this product to solve my own problem without even thinking about commercialization. Both my wife and my own camera rolls were overflowing with thousands of pictures of our kids, but it was difficult to find what we were looking for without endless scrolling. Our daughter would say the cutest thing... a few days later I would remember she said something cute but completely forgot what it was she had said. Grandparents were always bugging us for not sending them pictures from the latest events.
As a father, especially in the AI era, I **really** don't like sharing pictures of my kids on traditional social media, nor do I like my family members sharing pictures of them (ahem.. mom..). This has been a topic of debate within our household but it is important to me.
After showing the prototype to a few friends, I realized there might be a more widespread need for a product like this. Hence where we are today.
The product is still a bit rough around the edges, and we sincerely appreciate feedback as we try to build an app that helps families preserve memories, control camera roll chaos, and share content safely within the family ecosystem.
In case anyone is wondering, my daughter's name is Kaia... Kaia + Diary = Kaiary and launch day falls on her birthday. A bit corny, I know, but what can I say ;)
I'm also happy to discuss the journey to getting here. As a non-technical founder the journey from building a journal for my own family in Obsidian and n8n, to a Replit prototype, to hiring on a CTO and actually building out a product for production.
