Jotter: Expense Tracker App
Buy-once finance app. No bank login, no subscription.
Hey! Spent the last few years as an iOS dev on some pretty big apps. Jotter is me testing whether I can do the indie thing on my own. Launched it as a subscription, but a year in I couldn't justify billing people monthly for something this simple. It's now a one-off $4.99. Manual expense entry, budgets, recurring bills, spending charts, iCloud sync, Home Screen widgets. No bank login. No servers. No ads. A quiet app that helps you actually notice where your money goes.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm Alex, solo indie dev based in Brisbane, Australia. I shipped the first version of
this app as a subscription, then asked myself why a simple expense tracker needed a
recurring bill.
Version 2.0 is the answer. Jotter is buy-once, $4.99, forever.
What makes it different:
- Manual entry, on purpose. Noticing and logging your spending IS the point. If
the app imports everything automatically, you stop paying attention.
That's the whole user problem, not a feature to solve. Every purchase you make should
be something you consider and take ownership of.
- No bank login, no account, no server. Your data lives in CoreData
on your iPhone and syncs across your devices via iCloud. I don't run
a backend because I don't need one, and because the second I do,
your data becomes my liability.
Stuff I'd love your thoughts on:
– Does the manual entry interest you or the exact opposite?
– Features the app should include?
– Features it should not include?
I'll be in the comments all day. Please feel free to ask anything.
Alex
