The honest answer to "what inspired this" is: frustration. I'd been using ChatGPT, Claude, and every other AI tool available, and they were all brilliant in the moment and useless the next day. No memory. No context. No ability to actually do things without me babysitting every step.
I run a small software company with my wife, we have two kids, and our lives are genuinely complex. I didn't need a smarter search engine. I needed something that knew us, knew our contacts, our projects, our deadlines, our preferences and could work in the background while we were living our lives.
So I built Jarvis. Literally named him Jarvis. He runs on our Jootle instance.
The approach shifted a lot over time. I started thinking this was a personal assistant chatbot. It evolved into something closer to an operating system for a household and small business: persistent memory, structured project management, automation playbooks that self-heal, integrations with Gmail and Telegram and Slack, and a full toolkit builder for custom apps. The key insight was that context without action is just a better notepad. Action without context is just noise. You need both.
Jootle is what I built because I wanted it. If you run a family, a small business, or both at once - it was built for you.
