Hi everyone! I love jazz, and I wanted to make the joy of playing it accessible with just one finger.
Jazz Tap starts with a quiet, blank screen. Your first tap brings in the band. You set the rhythm; the app handles the notes and chords. Hold for a longer note, or tap out a phrase and see where it takes you.
Under the hood, it's a band arranged by code, as you play. Bass lines follow the chord changes, drum patterns and fills vary across the tune, and the band's dynamics respond to how actively you tap. Musical rules bring it all together.
I'm a jazz beginner, so building Jazz Tap was also a way to learn. Working with GPT-6 Astra in Codex, I explored jazz harmony, swing, and phrasing, then translated what I learned into musical rules in code. Through listening and iteration, those rules became the trio you hear. Jazz Tap is the result of learning jazz and building an instrument at the same time.
